NSTI

The National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) is an educational initiative designed to prepare students (grades 9 and 10), particularly minorities and women, to become an important part of the transportation workforce. The mathematics and technology curriculum incorporates communication skills and personal enhancement activities.

Students will learn about career opportunities in the three transportation industries: air, land and water while improving competence in specific mathematic, technology and communication skills. They will also develop an appreciation for the value of teamwork and interpersonal relationships, which contributes to career success.

Successful Teenagers

Qualified applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the program:

  • Submit a completed application

  • Have a 2.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale

  • Submit a letter of recommendation from the principal and 1 teacher at their current school

  • Submit standardized test scores from current school 

  • Submit a brief essay explaining their interest in mathematics and technology, familiarity with careers in transportation, reason for interest in NSTI and how the program can assist with meeting their career goals.
